On today’s Daily Deal, Jake Cody wins WPT London, the sixth PartyPoker World Open begins, and the WSOP Circuit will make a stop in the Sooner State of Oklahoma! It’s all coming, right now!
Hello, I’m Sean Gibson and welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.
Jake Cody followed up his title in the European Poker Tour’s Dauville event in January in a big way. This time, he trumped the pack of the World Poker Tour’s first ever stop in London and racked up two-hundred seventy-three thousand British Pounds.
On the final hand of the WPT London Main Event, Nichlas Mattsson raised pre-flop with Ace-Queen of diamonds and ultimately ended up four-betting his chips into the center. Cody made the call after being dealt pocket queens and the board ran out five cards nine or lower. Mattsson collected one-hundred seventy-seven thousand Pounds for his runner-up performance.
Here’s how the final nine players cashed out in the Main Event of WPT London:
1. Jake Cody – £273,783
2. Nichlas Mattsson – £176,979
3. Bruce Atkinson – £93,316
4. Kristoffer Thorsson – £56,311
5. Giovanni Safina – £42,233
6. Sandiep Khosa – £34,189
7. Fabian Quoss – £26,144
8. Gareth Teatum – £18,100
9. Priyan de Mel – £12,871
Also taking place in London was the WPT’s High Roller event, which saw Full Tilt Poker pro Justin “Boosted J” Smith walk away with the title. Smith pulled down one-hundred forty-one thousand Pounds after trumping PartyPoker pro Tony G heads-up. The tournament sported a healthy buy-in of fifteen thousand Pounds and featured fourteen entrants.
On Wednesday, Phil Laak will return to defend his title in the PartyPoker World Open. The event is taking place all this week from London and features six starting heats of eight players each. Laak’s first round match also features Tom “durrrr” Dwan, undoubtedly giving him something to sweat about. The sixth PartyPoker World Open boasts a field of forty-eight players and the winner will take home two-hundred thousand dollars.
The WSOP Circuit will visit the Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma from January sixth to twenty-fifth for the first ever American WSOP event not held at a Harrah’s property. The Choctaw Casino WSOP Circuit stop will feature ten ring events. The Choctaw tournament means that there are now thirteen stops on the current WSOP Circuit schedule, with potentially one more to be added. The casino’s proximity to several large cities in the South – including Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa – should provide for large and competitive fields.

It’s Wednesday here on the Daily Deal! We have some great stories from the world of poker, including the latest action from the two-thousand ten World Series of Poker. Plus, we’ll check out the latest political efforts from the Poker Players Alliance and tell you how you can win your way to watch the November Nine in sunny Las Vegas for free.
Hello, I’m Sean Gibson and welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.
Another bracelet was awarded yesterday, this time in event number thirty eight, the ten thousand dollar pot limit hold’em championship. Hungarian player Valdemar Kwaysser became the second player from his country to win a bracelet this year and took in a prize of just over six hundred and seventeen thousand dollars. Notable finishes in this event include Vitaly Lunkin in twenty third and Mike “The Mouth” Matusow in twenty sixth place. Many have been saying that this year at the WSOP is the year of the Brit or even the year of the European players, but don’t be fooled, when we look at the stats there’s no question about American domination. As you can see Americans have twenty five bracelets, six times more than players from the UK and in terms of money won, have almost five times as much as the nearest nation which is Canada.
Earlier this week, two-thousand four World Series of Poker Main Event champ Greg Raymer authored an e-mail to members of the Poker Players Alliance. Raymer asked players to visit AmericaSpeakingOut.com and support the legalization and regulation of online poker. The Republican-oriented website, according to Raymer’s e-mail, focuses “on how to continue to make this great nation prosper. I believe we shouldn’t pass up this unique opportunity to share our message of personal freedom and liberty with these members of Congress.”
Raymer’s call to action worked, as the issue had received over 700 votes by mid-Tuesday. Poker players will recall that banks and other financial institutions were forced to comply with the regulations of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, on June first. A mark-up hearing on legislation favorable to internet gambling is expected next month in the House Financial Services Committee. In the meantime, do your part to help legalize this great game in the United States by visiting ThePPA.org today.

On today’s Daily Deal: the Mizrachi brothers make WSOP history, Eric Baldwin catches a lucky break, a household name in poker moves to a very different field, and a “household” name from a very different field makes an incursion in poker.
Hello, I’m Sean Gibson; welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.
The fifty thousand dollar WSOP Player’s Championship marked only the second time in WSOP history that two brothers make a final table: Robert and Michael Mizrachi. The first time this happened was eight years ago, when Ross and Barny Boatman made the final table of a fifteen hundred dollar Pot Limit Omaha event. Robert Mizrachi was unable to parlay his final table chip lead into a victory as he busted in fifth place and notable pro John Juanda was eliminated in fourth. That made the final three players remaining Michael Mizrachi, Vladimir Schmelev and David Oppenheim. In the late hours of the morning it was Michael Mizrachi who pulled out the win, taking the trophy, bracelet and the much needed one point five five million dollars.
UB.com pro Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin almost tasted his second bracelet, as he sat atop a hefty chip stack entering Day Two of the one-thousand dollar No Limit Hold’em event. While we’re in no way implying he is not an outstanding poker player, Lady Luck definitely gave him a sick lap dance yesterday: he drew out on pocket tens with eight-seven, and more impressively, ran pocket nines into pocket queens and hit a two-outer on the river. As Phil Hellmuth said: “Poker is one hundred percent skill and fifty percent luck.” Apparently Baldwin’s good luck charm ran out of juice as he eventually was eliminated in 15th place. Late last night play was stopped down to the final table which doesn’t feature any household names. The winner of this one will take in a little over six hundred thousand dollars.
Former World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack has a new gig. Is it with Harrah’s? No. MGM? No. Maybe as developer to the gaming industry in the Middle East? Couldn’t be farther from the truth. The man responsible for taking the WSOP to a new level will be now applying his legendary marketing skills to… bull riding. Seriously: Pollack is the new Executive Chairman of the Professional Bull Riders and will serve on the company’s Board of Directors. Consider that before the WSOP, Pollack had worked with NASCAR and the NBA, and you will join us in wondering: Whaaat!? The poker world wishes him the best.
UB.com is really thinking outside the box when it comes to sponsoring pros. The latest addition to their roster is adult entertainer Samantha Ryan. You may never heard her name before – I sure hadn’t – but Ms. Ryan is on top of her business, with over one-hundred and forty films to her name and four AVN Awards in as many years. For those who don’t know about these things, our official fact checker told me that the AVN is the adult film industry’s Oscars, and Ryan has starred in films including… “War of the Girls” and “French Confessions.” News of this sponsorship was posted on Twitter by Samantha herself:
“So it’s official! I WILL be playing in 5-6 WSOP Events sponsored by @ultimate_bet! A million thanks @RealAnnieDuke! C my fans there!”
If any of you want to check out her poker skills, her first event will be Friday’s fifteen hundred dollar No Limit Hold’em tournament at the WSOP. Can you actually imagine this? A young female porn star in a giant room filled with very lonely men. Yiiiikes.
That does it for today’s Daily Deal. Be sure to bookmark our site and check back every Monday through Friday for a new episode of this show as well as exclusive interviews and features with your favorite poker personalities. I’ll catch you tomorrow and until then, let those Aces hold up!

The schedule for the World Series of Poker Europe is announced, the Year of the Woman continues as a female player takes the EPT Mixed Games Player of the Year title, and we’ll wrap it up with a ludicrous story involving Phil Hellmuth.
Hello, I’m Sean Gibson and welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.
The 2010 World Series of Poker starts on Friday, with 57 bracelets up for grabs along with big paydays and bragging rights. The Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino will house everybody who’s anybody in poker. The first two days promise to feature record-setting fields and a high caliber of poker talent. On Friday, the WSOP kicks off with the annual five hundred dollar Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em tournament. Add a couple of zeros to that buy-in for the first ever running of the fifty thousand dollar Player’s Championship, which will be one of three events broadcast by ESPN. Day two will see players flock to the first of six open one thousand dollar No Limit Hold’em events. Keep watching the Daily Deal for the latest WSOP news and gossip as it develops.
As if there wasn’t enough excitement regarding the WSOP, the schedule for its European version has just been announced. The two thousand and ten WSOP Europe will start on September fourteenth at the Casino at the Empire in London. It will have one more event than last year, for a total of five. One of the highlights is a No Limit Hold’em High Roller Heads-Up tournament with a buy-in of ten thousand pounds. The Main Event will be the fifth and final tournament on the docket this year and begin on September twenty-third.
The year of the woman continues: PokerStars pro Katja Thater won the title of European Poker Tour Mixed Games Player of the Year, thanks to her skills in the more obscure variations of poker. To win this accolade, she had to defeat the likes of Alexander Kravchenko, Joe Hachem and Scott “BigRiskky” Clements in an invitational deep stack tournament. Thater will be presented with her well-deserved trophy on the opening day of the Main Event at EPT Estonia.
What will Phil Hellmuth come up with next? The attention-loving poker legend recently had a cameo in rapper Ludacris’ video for his new song “Sex Room”. If Hellmuth wanted to draw attention to himself and UB.com, he definitely succeeded. In his UB tee shirt and baseball hat, he certainly stands out, sitting at a private poker table at the Palms among a group of rappers. All the while, he’s raking in UB-marked poker chips.
